LOYENS & LOEFF

In 2013, Binst Architects won this important Brussels architecture competition, which at the time focused on passive apartments. The client allowed the designers to choose a concept with demolition and new construction or renovation. This concept – which resolutely opts for reconversion – provides an appropriate response to the shortcomings of the existing office building. This both energetically and functionally. Preserving the concrete skeleton saves costs, reduces waste production and shortens construction time! The new modular natural stone facade is set back in relation to the original facade surface, creating a very interesting depth effect. It also provides efficient structural sun protection. Along the southeast side, the two corners are filled in to create a coherent whole. The added open corners make the building more pleasant and readable. The project achieved the BREEAM score VERY GOOD.
